4-Mar-24: Light Painting ~ Photos In The Dark

This week’s meeting at the club looked like there was a power cut as we all fumbled around in the dark learning and practising some light painting.

We brought our cameras and tripods and got set up to try our hand at a selection of still-life set-ups ranging from a garlic bulb, an empty vodka bottle with fake ice cubes, through to roses and imitation barbed wire.

Many of us were new to the concept of light painting and it was of course, difficult to change camera settings in the dark as we didn’t want to disturb others by turning the lights on to change our f-stop or focus, but we managed.

We used a host of different types of small lights from a DIY head light, through to our phones and even an infrared torch – all worked really well, and gave a great variety of interesting and fascinating results, some of which have appeared on our Facebook page already.

Aside from cameras, some great images were also captured using mobile phone cameras.

All in all, a great practical learning experience that sent members home with some new basic skills to practise at their leisure.
