North Leicestershire Photographic Society found its roots at Snibstone Colliery, Coalville in 1971.

George Congrave , in charge of the weighbridge, showed some of his photographs to lorry drivers calling at the office. This provoked several discussions and friendly arguments, so it was decided to hold a photographic competition.

The library room at the Miners Welfare Centre, in Owen Street Coalville, was chosen as the venue with all attendees enjoying a pleasant evening.

As a result of this small beginning a decision was made to form a society. Len Heath was elected Chairman and Bill Foster the secretary. Arthur Cooper was in charge of the finances as Treasurer.

The society grew and continued to meet at NLMWC until March 1985 when it was decided to move to The Springboard Center on Mantle Lane in Coalvillle, meetings being held fortnightly.

At the AGM in 1996 the society changed its name to the Coaville and District Photographic Society.

The club’s present venue isĀ Coalville CAN, Memorial Square, Coalville.
