5-Feb-24: Chairman’s Challenge ~ SOOC

The Chairman’s Challenge this year was ‘Straight from camera’. This was indeed a challenge! Most members probably haven’t tried doing this since the days of film. The idea was to use our camera to compose carefully, consider the functions that our cameras have and end up, hopefully, with an image that could be projected without any processing.

Members rose to the challenge and the competition was well subscribed. There was a good variety of photographs entered including  birds, still life and portraits. Our Chairman, Pete, had spent time assessing the photographs carefully and gave his opinions on the night. He made very helpful and enlightening suggestions as to how we could have possibly used our in camera functions such as picture format size to improve the photograph. Also to have considered exposure and choice of aperture more selectively to improve the image. This Challenge was an excellent exercise for the members to really try to get to know the functions in their camera and to make careful choices to produce photographs without editing. It was a tough decision for Pete to choose a winner! After careful consideration Pete chose ‘Red Twine’ by Fiona Preece as the winning photograph.
